Getting Leads With Banner Advertising

Many years ago when I first started marketing online, I used SEO and domain names to generate traffic. I rarely used banner advertising because I thought it wasn't worth the money and/or I didn't want to take the time to learn how to use banner advertising properly.

You see, I started online back in 2000 and by 2002 I was making 6 figures with SEO and domain names (type-ins) so I felt I didn't need to learn anything else.

As time went on, trying to maintain first page rankings and depending on domains started to diminish. When the great recession started in 2008, things pretty much went downhill. Luckily, I made some wise investments and created a passive income in the past where I was able to stay afloat financially with lots of sacrifice of course.

I say all this because I want you to understand that you should never stop learning. What im about to teach you today, I could have learned years ago if I put my mind to it. EVERYTHING I try to teach you here on this blog is to help you save time and money building your business.

Okay...here we go!

Now the first thing I learned about banner ads is to test, test and test again. That goes for ANY marketing for that matter.

When promoting affiliate programs, you NEVER want to use their banners. The main reason is, there may be 1000's of affiliates advertising the same banner. The second reason is people have banner blindness. They see so many banners that most never grab their attention.

After lots of testing, I found that a banner with a small image on the left, a solid color background and bold lettering in the middle draws attention. Never tell them what the site is about or what you are selling. You want to make them curious enough to see more.

As far as the text goes, you have to come up with something short and to the point to get them to click.

I really don't want to tell you what to say because you may have better ideas then I do. Another tip is to use a background color similar to your landing page if posible. Once you have found the right banner, send them to a landing page that does all the selling for you. Plain text landing pages are boring and don't get the same results as a landing page with someone giving a motivating sales presentation.

Let's move on to my results. These results are from just 1 website I advertise on. It cost me $1 per day to test a banner, then when I find a banner that works, I can advertise at $24 for 30 days. The current banner I use is getting me on average 10 to 20 leads a day. Now that I have a winning banner and landing page, the banner pretty much gets the same results no matter where I advertise as long as the visitors are part of my niche.

From Aug. 30-31 I advertised affiliate programs using THEIR banners. As you can see, the results were terrible.

From Sept 1-2, I created my own banner using a simular banner above and used it to promote GMP. As you can see, the results were impressive. What a difference a banner makes.

From Sept 4-6 I used the exact same banner except this time I had the text blink which gave me even better results. I also learned from experience that after labor day, internet traffic will begin to increase since everyone would be back from vacation and this is when the season begins for online marketers.

It took me awhile to test different sites, banners and landing pages to come up with the right combination. As I find new ways on building my GMP Business, I'll share them with you here on this blog.
